Atletico Madrid 0-0 Chelsea – Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – 22nd April 2014

Jose Mourinho and Chelsea produced one of their trademark disciplined and defensive displays at the Vicente Calderon on Tuesday night, ultimately coming away with a very valuable 0-0 draw.

The Blues lost Petr Cech to injury early on but his replacement, Mark Schwarzer, had very little to do overall as the La Liga leaders struggled to create much against a very solid Chelsea side which saw Ashley Cole and his magnificent beard back in the starting line-up.

Hardly the most entertaining of games but then Jose and Co. have never been about the beautiful game, just the winning one (usually anyway).

Oh, and a point about the commentators on ITV, they kept calling Atletico’s Brazilian playmaker “Diego Ribas”, but hasn’t he always been known as just “Diego”? It was bloody annoying!

  1. Zam says:

They explained the Diego thing early on, used his full name as not to confuse with Diego Costa.

  2. CFC Jay says:

gotta agree with Alan, the whole Diego Ribas thing did get on my nerves. One has always been known as Diego, and the other has (this season anyway) been known fully as Diego Costa…..
They did this the other week with Lucas “Moura” when we played PSG, who to me has always been known as just Lucas….though in their defence they did explain that is was so not to get confused with the other Lucas “Leiva” who plays for Liverpool and was no where near the game for us to be confused with….?? Bloody ITV haha!!

  3. Zam says:

@CFC Jay, the same Lucas Leiva that’s generally known as megacunt….

  4. Hootie says:

Jose Mourinho = Rich Man’s Sam Allardyce

  5. metalist says:

Yeah as usual Jose Mourinho parked a bus in front of his goal post. Oh how much I dislike his style of football.

And Mikel Obi and his haircut. Now, what’s that all about? He looks so gay in it.
