It took a Nemanja Matic header in the 34th minute to secure all three points for Chelsea on Tuesday night. The Blues had plenty of chances to score more goals only for Sporting ‘keeper Rui Patricio to produce save after save in an outstanding individual display.

Matic, a former Benfica player, bagged the only goal of the game courtesy of a looped header from a Cesc Fabregas assist and while the likes of Diego Costa and Andre Schurrle went close, that goal would end up being the match-winner.

The Blues go top of Group G with four points from their opening two games in what is sure to be a comfortable passage to the knock-out stages.
