In scenes which will no doubt make your English hearts swell with pride (I’m grand, I’m Irish!), a group of Chelsea fans over for the Champions League game in France on Tuesday have been filmed behaving hideously on the Paris underground.
The footage, which was filmed by British ex-pat Paul Nolan shows the fans on a train at the Richelieu-Drouot station repeatedly stopping a black man from boarding the train. The fans in question were then heard singing “We’re racist, we’re racist and that’s the way we like it.” Lovely stuff, eh?
A spokesperson for Chelsea said:
“Such behaviour is abhorrent and has no place in football or society. We will support any criminal action against those involved in such behaviour, and should evidence point to the involvement of Chelsea season ticket holders or members the club will take the strongest possible action against them including banning orders.”
All this is rather ironic considering the multi-national, multi-ethnic make-up of Chelsea teams (both playing and coaching staff) over the past 20 or so years. I wonder if they’d stop Didier Drogba getting on a train with them? Anyway, let’s hope these nasty goons are named, shamed and banned from football.
