Chelsea too their lead at the top of the table to seven points (with a game in hand) after a rather turgid victory against Stoke at Stamford Bridge.

For most of the first-half, the combined skills of ‘keeper Asmir Begovic and the Stoke City backline kept the Blues at bay. However, on 39 minutes, the superb Eden Hazard stroked home from the penalty spot after Cesc Fabregas had been felled in the box.

However, just before the break, none other than Charlie Adam produced the moment of the match, when he fired over Thibaut Courtois in the Chelsea goal from his own-half.  An amazing goal from a gifted player who has all too often resorted to thuggery in recent seasons.

Stunning!

Jose Mourinho sent on Diego Costa at half-time only for the Spanish striker to pull up with a hamstring problem soon after.

The Blues continued their search for a precious winner and eventually it came, just after the hour-mark, but only after a right balls-up in the Stoke backline. Begovic, who had been superb throughout, tried a ridiculously dangerous pass to Steven Nzonzi just outside the box. But the alert Hazard was too quick for the Frenchman, and pinched the ball off him before setting up Loic Remy, who made it 2-1.

With all the creative talent in the Chelsea line-up, one would’ve expected a bit more magic. However, for Mourinho, it’s results that matter. And with the Blues seven points clear, the title looks theirs. As for the Potters, they are nicely positioned in 10th spot.
