Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he just couldn’t get one over on his players yesterday, after seeing his raucous attempt at an April Fool’s joke fall decidedly flat.
The Italian attempted to lighten the mood during training yesterday morning by announcing to the squad that they would be put through a gruelling double session to work on a new tactical shape.
Ancelotti revealed that his ruse was immediately spotted by a certain eagle-eyed German midfielder;
“Michael Ballack turned to me straight away and said, ‘Coach, it’s April 1st’. I tried to do a joke but they found me out straight away.”
Rumours that several members of the Chelsea squad will miss the Manchester United game on Saturday with split sides are yet to be confirmed!
