Caretaker boss David Unsworth saw his Everton side go down 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, albeit after a decent display from the visitors.

Danny Drinkwater made his first appearance for Chelsea this season, joining 17-year-old Ethan Ampadu in midfield, with the youngster becoming the first player born in 2000 to start a competitive game for the Blues.

In the first-half, Chelsea were by far the better side, and went in at the break 1-0 ahead, courtesy of Antonio Rudiger’s header after a corner.

However, in the second period, the Toffees were much improved, with Ademola Lookman hitting the crossbar and Kevin Mirallas seeing his effort well saved by Willy Caballero.

Despite that better second-half display from the visitors, it was Chelsea who would score next, with Willian netting a cracker in stoppage time.

There was still time for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to bag a consolation strike for the Toffees.

However, the game would end in victory for Antonio Conte and co., who move into the last eight of the competition.

As for Unsworth, he’ll no doubt be satisfied by his team’s display, as he looks to try and stop the rot at Goodison Park.
