Chelsea have been banned from signing players for the next two transfer windows after being found guilty by FIFA of breaching rules on signing youth players.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee investigation found that the Blues broke rules in the case of 29 players under the age of 18. As such, their ensuing transfer ban will run until the end of January 2020. The club have also been fined around £460,000.

Charges were actually made in relation to 92 players in total, but FIFA found that there were no breaches made in the transfers of 63 of them. The FA have also been found guilty of breaching FIFA rules and been given six months to address the situation.

Chelsea have since issued a statement on the matter claiming they believe that the club “acted in accordance with the relevant regulations” during all of the aforementioned transfers and will therefore be submitting an appeal in due time.

It’s all going swimmingly at the Bridge, isn’t it? It would appear that Chelsea appointed Sarri – a manager who obviously requires a major squad overhaul to make his rigid system work – in the knowledge that a protracted transfer ban could be imminent, given that the FIFA investigation began in September 2017.

Not to mention the imminent Eden Hazard hoopla that is almost certain to drive us all to insanity.

What a mess.
