Maloney_shaun_cel_profile_2005Celtic’s Shaun Maloney is being linked with a move to Chelsea after the Blues’ sporting director Frank Arnesen was spotted at Parkhead for the Champions League win over Benfica. Reports in some Scottish papers suggested Jose Mourinho wants to make a move for the 23-year-old in January when he will be allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement before becoming a free agent in the summer.

However, less Glasgow-centric sports reporters claim that Benfica’s Simao Sabrosa was the intended target. Maloney is a decent player who I believe could make a move to the Premier League, but Chelsea is probably the worst possible destination for his career. His former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill is apparently also in the hunt for his signature. Do you rate him, Pies fans?

Villa would be a much better fit. Maloney is talented but he wouldn’t get near the Chelsea first XI.

Perhaps he should give Shaun Wright-Phillips a ring.
