UEFA have ordained that Patrice Evra will be banned from taking part in their matches for seven months as punishment for kicking a Marseille fan in the head a week or so ago.

Evra became embroiled in a pitchside confrontation with the supporter before Marseille’s Europa League game against Vitoria Guimaeres on 1st November – a skirmish that concluded swiftly when the veteran full-back lashed out with a high boot.

According to the Press Association, UEFA have announced that Evra will be banned from all European club matches until June 30th, 2018, and fined to the tune of €10,000 fine (approx. £8,830) for his troubles.

L’OM themselves issued a statement last Friday to confirm that they too have levied a suspension on Evra, who has henceforth been rendered unavailable for selection until the club decide what to do with him.
