Sunderland 0-1 Everton – Premier League – 12th April 2014

Sunderland's Vito Mannone spills the shot from Everton's Gerard Deulofeu

Everton leapfrogged Arsenal into into the top four on Saturday, courtesy of a rather less-than-impressive win against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The Toffees struggled to click into gear against a Black Cats side fighting for their Premier League lives, with Steven Naismith missing a glorious chance early on.

Sunderland, like Everton, struggled to create a lot of decent chances although they remained organised throughout. However, with just 15 minutes to go, poor old old Wes Brown put through his own net to condemn his side to another defeat and fire Roberto Martinez’s Toffees into the top four. Gus Poyet’s chances of keeping his side( now seven points from safety) in the Premier League look mighty slim indeed.
