Currently knee-deep in a rich vein of form that has seen him stick away 12 goals in his last 12 games, Romelu Lukaku has become a pivotal presence in the Everton front line since returning to the club a couple of summers back.

Having made just one Premier League start in three years at Chelsea, Lukaku eventually rejoined the Toffees on a permanent basis having spent a successful stint on loan at Goodison for the 2013/14 season. He has since become only the fifth player to score 50 Premier League goals before turning 23.

That said, it took some coercing, with the 22-year-old Belgian behemoth revealing that he batted away several phone calls from Roberto Martinez before a stern word from his dear old mum convinced him that a return to Merseyside was the correct career move.

“He [Martinez] actually called me three times and I didn’t pick up on the first two, so I’m glad I answered eventually,” Lukaku told FourFourTwo magazine.

“I discussed it with him, I spoke to Chelsea, I spoke to my mother, and eventually she said: ‘Go to Everton.’ I haven’t regretted it.”

We think we speak for Everton fans everywhere when we say ‘Nicely played, Mrs L!’.
