Joining the great pantheon of footballing animal interlopers, a black and white cat temporarily brought a halt to Everton’s FA Cup third round tie against Dagenham & Redbridge yesterday when it took up residence in the Goodison penalty area.

Despite several attempts made by Toffees ‘keeper Joel Robles to snare the feline, Goodison cat managed to evade his would-be captor with an impressive turn of pace.

Indeed, Roberto Martinez was quick to sing the cat’s praises after the game, even comparing Tibbles to one of the all-time greats.

I thought he had great style and movement. He’s a young cat who’ll make mistakes.

I don’t want to put any pressure on him, but he reminds me of Cecil the lion.

Nicely put Bobby. Just a reminder that the January transfer window is very much open.
