Wayne Rooney scored his first ever hat-trick in Everton colours as his side pulverised West Ham at Goodison.

Coming into the game on the back of two embarrassingly heavy defeats, the Toffees played like a weight had been lifted while the inbound Sam Allardyce watched on from the stands.

Rooney helped himself to three goals in a 4-0 victory, the last of which was a remarkable effort from well inside his own half – spanking a delightfully flat shot in from distance after Joe Hart engaged legs before engaging brain once again…

Love the trajectory on that, but the assist must surely go to Hart, who presented the opportunity on a gilded platter.

Bit of a track record in that department, our Joe.

Joe Hart being Joe Hart (he always could do better) and Rooney being Rooney (a fantastic goal now and then to mask the usually very average performances).

Sorry, I don’t want to be negative but that’s just the truth.
