With a place in the FA Cup fourth round on the line the stakes are already high for Mansfield manager Paul Cox this weekend, with the Conference side taking on Liverpool at the One Call Stadium – though if The Stags somehow manage to pull off an upset, Cox will be on the receiving end of one hell of a win bonus.

After getting married earlier today, league sponsors Blue Square Bet have offered to pay for Cox and new wife Natasha’s honeymoon should Mansfield overturn Brendan Rodger’s outfit on Sunday – pledging to cover the cost of a VIP honeymoon to any destination in the world* if the Stags overcome the odds.

Blue Square Bet PR manager Alan Alger said:

“It’s a great wedding tradition to have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue – well this is the ‘something blue’ and we hope the team win on Sunday and the couple get to enjoy a great honeymoon on us.”

Presumably Blue Square stand to make an awful lot of money if Mansfield pip ‘Pool given the odds are probably not going to be in the Conference side’s favour, but nevertheless, the wager is certain to spice up Cox’s afternoon somewhat.

Can’t wait for the obligatory ‘over the (honey)moon’ gags in the post-match waffle.

*we hear Great Yarmouth is lovely this time of year.
