Everybody’s favourite non-league vanity project, Billericay Town, went swaggering into an FA Cup first round fixture against fellow Isthmian Premier Division side Leatherhead on Thursday evening, coursing with the confidence instilled in them by their inspirational owner/manager Glenn Tamplin.
Indeed, in the days leading up to the match, Tamplin was full of it on social media, imploring fans to set their Sky boxes to record what was certain to be a momentous step up in his side’s ascension to greatness…

Those who did set their boxes to record the match were subsequently treated to a comprehensive 3-1 away win for Leatherhead, live on BT Sport, over Tamplin’s side – which boasts several ex-Premier League names, a disproportionately swollen wage bill and a series of godawful ‘motivational’ murals to help fire them up.
After the final whistle, the victorious Tanners celebrated with a wonderfully acerbic sing-song in their dressing room: a rousing rendition of ‘The World’s Greatest’ by R Kelly…
