Cardiff City’s delightful owner Vincent Tan has reportedly sent an email to manager Malky Mackay to inform the Red Blue Dragonbirds manager that he is to either “resign or be sacked”.

According to BBC Sport, along with a list of his grievances with Mackay in a wide range of areas (including his “signings, transfer budgets, results on the pitch, style of play and his track record as a manager”), Tan issued the Scot with the ultimatum after several days of squabbling between the two came to a frothy head.

We’d have to argue that Mackay’s record as a manager is actually rather good, though one of Tan’s main gripes seems to be the fact that Mackay spent £15million (plus add-ons) over his £35million transfer budget with meagre returns to show for it so far this season.

To be fair, you can buy an awful lot of leather gloves, high-waisted trousers, hair oil and strategically-worn replica shirts for that kind of money.

Mackay broke Cardiff’s transfer record three times over the summer to sign as-yet goalless striker Andreas Cornelius (£7.5million), centre-half Steven Caulker (£8million) and Chilean scrapper Gary Medel (£11million) though the Welsh side are far from sitting pretty in the Premier League table – perched in 15th place, a perilous 4 points from the dotted line of doom.

Indeed, Mackay has already publicly stated that he won’t resign from his post, which means Tan is going to have to sack him and pay up his contract if he seriously wants shot – leaving his aforementioned ultimatum looking a bit daft in actuality.

*Sigh*

This is what happens when rich, oblivious businessmen buy football clubs as playthings. ‘Tis a shame and a sham is what it be.

He May have saved our club with his millions but his behaviour is deplorable and we are an embarrassment and example of what is wrong with modern football. I’d rather us be shit, playing in blue in league 2.

  2. porcelain sandwich says:

It’s actually quite scary what the owners have started doing to these newly promoted teams. Both Tan and the Hull owner clearly don’t understand what a football club is – I think it’s only a matter of time before Crystal Palace are forced to play in rainbow kits and are rebranded the Fighting Crystal Kingfishers

  3. Rob says:

    Good on you Stu,
and good luck in getting rid of that deplorable man.
A shout out to the Coventry City fans who are sticking by their protest against their owners and staying away from their “home” games in Northampton.

  4. Jarren says:

    Top man, Stu.

I read this article on the BBC website and went outside to have a smoke.

While there, I thought about what it would be like to be a Cardiff supporter and I came to the exact conclusion as you.

No matter what team we support, I would say the majority would rather their team toil away honestly and with dignity in the lower divisions than be in the PL with that clown in charge.

I think I speak for every fan (even Swansea fans) when I say we sympathise with you.

  5. syndex says:

As an Everton fan I have sympathy for Cardiff, we had Johnson in the late 90s as our lead clown and our city mates had the yank pair as a double act couple of years ago. for the last decade or so we have been hearing rumours about foreign buyers and hedge fund take overs all going to pump in huge transfer fees and blue bill has said he will only sell to the right buyer. Cardiff are a lesson to be learned I hope Mackay screws Tan out of every penny then walks into another premier Job (west brom could do worse) and the fans take notice, the chairman is the real controller of the club not the manager and not every potential suitor is as good as what you have now.

  6. Boz says:

Tan, just like that clown at hull are arrogant egotistical twats of the highest order, the sooner they take their filthy money out of our clubs the better.
These clubs survived over a century without these crooks

  7. Iain says:

To be fair to the clown at Hull he is at least a local business man made good, and has put a lot of hos own money into the club. Hes not someone looking at it as a business opportunity with no ties to the community.
As I understand the situation in Hull its more about a dispute with the council about investment in the stadium that has got out of control. I sympathise with Cardif fans, Malky will be OK, he will get his contract paid off and walk into another job I expect, but they will be stuck with Tan.

  8. matty says:

Even though Cardiff are one of my least favourite teams, I really feel for their suffering fans, Tan is a complete moron, riding roughshod over his club like a total egotistical cunt.
Thank fuck Tony Fernandes isn’t like this joker, he knows it’s the fans that matter.

  9. Jarren says:

@syndex: Yes mate, good call on Mackay to West Brom.

@Iain: Fair points mate, but I admit I laughed my arse off at your unintentional typo in your first sentence.

Unless, of course, the Hull owner is one MAJOR pimp…

  10. Steve says:

Rich megalomaniacs like Tan will come and go, but the clubs, the traditions and the fan base will outlast them all. To the Tans of this world, clubs are just a business. Milk him for all he’s worth and enjoy the premiership games, watch the best players of the decade at your home ground, and tell your kids or your grand kids that you watched ‘giggs play his last ever game’ or got close to half of the England 2018 world cup winning team at your ground. I would love it if a Tan bought Bristol Rovers and got us in the premiership. Blimey, we would play in gold shorts with silk dragons embroidered on them for the chance.

And Cardiff fans tell Tan “RESIGN or be turned into Achify!!”
