Qatar Soccer 2022 World Cup

“And the cheque’s in the post, yes?”

FIFA have decreed that they’d prefer the pesky old 2022 Qatar World Cup to not be played in the sweltering, 35-45°c Gulf emirate summertime but rather in the altogether more clement 25-30ºc Gulf emirate ‘winter’, after general secretary Jerome Valcke provisionally confirmed today that the tournament will be held between November and January.

“The dates of the World Cup will not be in June or July. I think it will be played between November 15 and January 15 the latest,” Valcke told France Inter Radio.

“If you play between November 15 and, let’s say, the end of December, it’s the time when the weather is the most favourable.

“You play with a temperature equivalent to that of a rather hot spring in Europe, you play with a temperature of 25ºc, which is perfect to play football.”

Now, among a zillion other logistical problems that a winter World Cup will dredge up (the final of the 2022 World Cup not actually being in 2022 being a fairly major one!), there is already an Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to begin in January 2023 – though Sepp Blatter has confirmed that FIFA will iron out all the kinks before a final, firm decision about the World Cup date is made sometime in December 2014.

In FIFA we trust.

    This is crazy!

How the hell did FIFA get away with this without anyone else being able to step in?!

@Foran44 — Corruption. Blatter will do whatever it takes to make money. Qatar has lots. Did they think of this when they accepted their bid? Of course they did. Do they care about anything else besides that? Not really.

So it will be hot in the Qatar summer – so what?! Will the pampered, multi-millionaire sports gods get a little dehydrated running around for a while? Aww diddums. If the players don’t wanna get hot, they should declare themselves unavailable for international selection. What next: moving games around because it might be too cold somewhere, or too wet, or too dry or the grass isn’t the acceptable shade of green or the wind isn’t at the desired angle. I feel sorry for the players being Blatter’s puppets………

here’s a thought, instead of jumping through boundless hoops to play somewhere no one in their right mind would go on holiday in the first place (for reasons aside heat: terrorism, discrimination, religious extremism)DON’T HAVE THE WORLD CUP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DESERT. I know it may seem difficult but just change the bloody venue. I understand it undermines Blatter’s “divine papal decision” but bloody hell Qatar has never contributed anything to football in general! not via clubs, players or internationally. Granted, the middle east is a HUGE market for football but its not a stable ground for tourism. It sounds discriminatory but realistically there is a reason that major tournaments aren’t played in certain parts of the world aside from monetary gain. Albeit thats the only reason why this one will be here
