According to the Daily Telegraph, police had to be called to the Swansea training ground on Friday after Chico Flores and Garry Monk became embroiled in a slanging match that culminated in the Spanish centre-back allegedly threatening to throw a brick at the team’s former captain.

The alleged incident, which came two days before Flores scored an own-goal in Swansea’s 1-3 home defeat to Tottenham, is understood to have sparked when Flores walked out of a senior team meeting at the club’s training ground.

As the Telegraph have it, a member of the public who is “believed to be the mother of a youth-team player at the club” then phoned the police and reported that she’d witnessed a “screaming” Flores brandishing a brick at Monk.

A statement from South Wales Police later confirmed that they were called to Swansea’s Landore training facility, but that no action was taken:

“Police were called to the training ground at around 1.30pm on Friday 17th January. Club officials were spoken to and no police action was required.”

A Swansea spokesman then added:

“Chico Flores and Garry Monk had an exchange of words, which is not uncommon between players in training grounds across the country, but no threats or altercations took place between the players in question.”

Hardly what Swansea need at the moment, eh? (ALLEGED) DEFENDER WARS!!
