According to the Daily Mail, Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan is staring down the barrel of a Premier League investigation over allegations he has offered his players an illegal bonus as an incentive to avoiding relegation this season before Sunday’s game against Tottenham.

It is being reported that Tan addressed the Cardiff players at the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane on the Saturday evening before the Spurs game and told them they “would need to shoot more” if they were to beat the drop before offering them a £3.7million wedge to share between themselves if they successfully retained their Premier League status.

The only problem being that Premier League clubs are required to submit their bonus schedule (i.e, any financial incentive not written directly into players’ contracts) to the Premier League board before the start of the season in a bid to help protect the integrity of the top flight.

However, a spokesman for Tan told the Mail: “We didn’t realise it was against regulations. Vincent Tan has now rescinded the offer.”

In theory, Cardiff could face a fine or even a points deduction if the Premier League deem Tan’s insubordination to be sufficiently serious – though we can’t imagine it will come to that.

Man, this guy is a rootin’, tootin’, walkin’, talkin’ PR dream.
