Some classic batchy Spanish club presidency scandal for you here, with the news that former Valencia president Juan Soler was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of plotting to kidnap his successor, Vicente Soriano.
According to AS, investigators believe Soler hired hitmen to kidnap Soriano in order to intimidate him into paying off debts of around €59million which relate to the acquisition of shares in the club.
Soler reportedly spent Tuesday night behind bars before being granted bail and being handed a restraining order against Soriano. It is alleged that Soler paid around €100,000 (approx. £82,000) to kidnap the man who took over from him at the Valencia helm.
Soriano replaced Soler as Valencia president in 2008 but has, in turn, since been replaced himself – with Amadeo Salvo currently serving in the role since July of 2013.
