World Cup GIF: Gonzalo Jara Steps Up And Misses Chile’s Decisive Penalty To Send Brazil Through

By Chris Wright

It took a penalty shoot-out, but Brazil made it through to the quarter-finals of their own World Cup by seeing off Chile in Belo Horizonte this afternoon.

Former Forest defender Gonzalo Jara was the unlucky man to miss the decisive penalty, sending Chile’s final spot-kick pinging off the inside of Julio Cesar’s left post and away into the yawning void of elimination…

So, so close to scoring – it really was a fraction from being around the post – but such are the fine margins in which we are dealing at this level.

All this after Charles Aranguiz had blasted home one of the finest penalties in recent memory…

Tough queso, Gonzalo.

Alexis Sanchez killed Chile’s attack. All game he tried to do everything by himself and it always ended the same, with him on the ground and Brazil counterattacking.

Jara was awful the whole game.
