Copa D’ohmerica: Edinson Cavani Apologises For Thinking Jamaica Was In Africa

Edinson Cavani has burped out an apology after mistakenly identifying Uruguay’s maiden Copa America opposition Jamaica as an African side that play a typically African style of football.

Jamaica, as it happens, are members of CONCACAF and have been invited along to the South American tournament by virtue of winning last year’s Caribbean Cup – with Mexico being the other non-CONMEBOL guest team participating at the 2015 Copa America.

Asked for his thoughts on Uruguay’s opening opponents at a pre-game media conference, Cavani replied: “As any other African team, Jamaica are going to be strong.”

After having his little geographical brain fade pointed out to him, the PSG striker then Tweeted out the following apology…

To be fair to Cavani, Jamaica’s presence at a strictly South American cup competition is a little confusing, but still…

    What’s so confusing? CONMEBOL only has 10 members, so two CONCACAF nations are traditionally invited to flesh out the structure of the tournament.

    It’s been that way for decades.

    @Murray: …. until you realize that Japan and China were invited to the Copa America 2015 before they had to rely on Jamaica to not turn them down. Welp, world football is more confusing than Inception…
