The agent of midfielder Michael Ballack has planted his fuß firmly in his mund by branding the current Germany squad ‘a bunch of gays’.

Michael Becker, who has represented Ballack since 1999, allegedly made the remarks in an interview with Der Speigel magazine two months prior to the World Cup.

Writer Alexander Osang, who conducted the interview, has recounted the unpublished comments made by Becker in which the agent claimed to know which players in the national side were gay and referred to one of the players as ‘half-gay’.

Osang went on to say that Becker put the newly adopted ‘elegant’ style of play that has become a trademark of Joachim Löw‘s players down to their homosexuality, in contrast to the more aggressive traditional German style of the past.

Becker is also reported to have suggested that there was a ‘former German national player who was ready to expose a ‘bunch of gays’ within the current squad’.

In summary, Osang added that homosexuality was ‘a synonym for anything that Becker did not understand’ which is sadly a concept that is all-too depressingly familiar.

    Depressengly familiar is spot-on. Football is deeply backwards in its views of gay people. Only one footballer in the English league has ever been “out” while he was playing. For the record that was Justin Fashanu (look how well that ended!). Their was recently a try at a campaign for raising awareness of being gay and playing football in which no footballers or major players in football took part. Disgraceful how no-one will support homosexuality in football. This man is only voicing what many otehrs think which is the saddest part, and he should be ashamed of himself.

    Rant Over.

    Also it’s nice to see you broadacasting this news and treating it in the best way by going against comments made by him. Well done.

    @Peter: Couldn’t agree more.

  4. Deckard says:

    i think about 10-12 years ago there was a very promising german player who decided to come out of the closet. his career was ruined and he’s now only playing amateur football. i remember seeing something about in on a current affairs programme, i’ll have to google what his name was.

    Probably a religious retard

    The accompanying photo made me titter!

    Other sports stars manage to come out without too much trouble. I think football is seriously behind the times on this, does anyone really care if someone is gay these days?

  7. Joe says:

    How about some financial penalties for UEFA-registered football people (as I assume Becker, as an agent, is) for spewing such hateful guff? Try saying something racist in the football media and you will rightly be chewed out (look at Big Ron, who will have to bear the ‘lazy n*gger’ cross till the end of his days). Where homosexuality is concerned, it’s the victim who gets ostracized-Fashanu, Le Saux, that German mentioned above etc. A very sad state of affairs.

  8. Deckard says:

    There are many players in the game who’re very religious. Usually they’re Christian or Muslim. I don’t think I need to explain how those religions view homosexuality. Then there’s a significant amount of people, footballers too I’m sure, who aren’t religious but find homosexuality morally wrong. So I guess UEFA will stand by the offenders rather than the victims as long as the majority of the football world still have a backward view on being gay.
