The Pies 10: Best Premier League defender

BEST DEFENDER
Yesterday we announced The Pies 10, a series of awards celebrating the last decade in the Premier League.
We have 10 categories for you to vote on, with 10 nominees in each category. Yesterday we kicked off with Best Goalkeeper (which you can still vote on – until the 30th Nov. deadline in fact).
Today we’re asking – who is the best Prem defender of the last decade?
NOTE: the player must have played in the Prem for at least half of the last decade (i.e. five seasons or more).
Below is a gallery of our 10 nominees (in alphabetical order). After you’ve checked it out, you can vote at the bottom of this post:
A very tough call, this one. A lot of fine defenders in the shortlist, and nice to see so many Englishmen.
Before you make your selection, please note – you can only vote ONCE. Voting results will be hidden until the results are revealed in a couple of weeks’ time.

I hate to say it (really I can’t stand him) but its got to be terry, amazingly consistant and does not feel the need to become a striker everytime the ball leaves his penalty box (yes cashley we are looking at you)
Carragher’s recent form has kind of put a downer on how good a player he’s been. But no Martin Laursen? Is that an oversight or did he not quite get in enough seasons?
Laursen was close, but didn’t play enough games overall. Injured too often, desipte an outstanding last couple of seasons for Villa.
i really think gallas is the got to be it, even though i’m a chelski fan
Mellberg!
Lauren?!! Are you kidding Ollie?! I was going to vote for Carvalho but he’s not there.
good post again, but you should have more nominees so as to fit everyones choice
Rio is the most consistent of all in the last ten years, I voted for him. JT is not very far though
Lauren! Ha ha ha. He’s was bloody woeful at Portsmouth and spent his latter years at Arse in the physio room.
Lauren was at Arsenal for more than seven years, don’t forget – terrific in early half of this decade.
But Mellberg and Carvalho were also v close to making shortlist
Oooooh, Sami Sami!
sami!!!
Ollie – until he was kept out of the team by Emannuel Eboue… if you really want a full back of Lauren’s type in the list I’d have put Heinze in there – he had two fantastic first years in a United shirt even winning the fans’ player of the year.
sami all the way, no-one, english or not can match his quality and consistentcy over the last ten years…and he scored lots of goals with his thunderous header too…!
This one seems a bit tougher to call than the keepers one. I’ll narrow it down to Ferdinand, Terry, and Campbell, and give my vote to Rio (present for withstanding)
*form
hyypia or carragher, and not just cos i’m a liverpool fan. terry, maybe.
As an Arsenal fan, I don’t like him but I have to say Rio. 4 league titles, a european cup, a fixture for england and he’s the most consistent of them all. He is a dick head with a triangular mouth though.
Its got to be terry the mans a machine Engaland captain and all round legend.
Also are you takeing the piss Gary neville the fact that man u won all the silver thay did with the handycap of neville on the pitch is amazing the rest of the teams must have been shit!!!
also his dad is Neville Neville what a mong, dont even get me started on Phil.

[...] far we have done Best Goalkeeper and Best Defender (both of which you can still vote on – until the 30th Nov. [...]
What? No Ledley? Shocking. Clear favouritism for the ‘top 4′. I’m sure if gay Sol hadn’t traded white for red he wouldn’t be up there either.
Tony Adams by a long shot!!!!!
i cant believe gary ugly neville is on this list… he hardly ever plays….! hyypia is the best!
