It’s fair to say that footballers are rather fond of a flash motor, a penchant Pies have already featured today. And it’s this love of high-end cars which Doncaster Rovers Chairman John Ryan is hoping will spur attacking midfielder Kyle Bennett on to great things this season.
According to the 21-year-old Bennett, club owner Ryan has promised him one of his prized Bentleys if he manages to hit the 20-goal mark this season. The attacker said:
“Even if he (Ryan) didn’t offer me the Bentley, I would still be looking to get that on the score sheet.”
“He hasn’t said it to any other lads, just me. I think he’s said it as an incentive for me to score a few goals.”
Cosmetic surgery magnate (yes really), Ryan believes that his motorised carrot will help Bennett stick away plenty of goals this season, and ultimately fire Donny back into the Championship. He said:
“There’s method in my madness. If Kyle gets 20 goals, I think two things are likely to happen – he’ll be worth about £2m to £3m in the transfer market and we’re more than likely to be in the Championship, which is worth about £5m to £6m.”
Which seems like a decent plan to me. However, one wonders what the other players are thinking? Why no deals for them? Maybe as Ryan is involved in the cosmetic surgery industry, he could offer the players a bit of free Botox or a penis extension?
