A lifelong Leyton Orient fan who recently passed away after losing his battle with cancer has done his beloved club one last astonishing posthumous service by leaving £150,000 to the O’s in his will.

John Burman, known locally as ‘Chingford John’, was by all accounts a fanatical Orient supporter and followed them home and away for over 30 years before he sadly passed away, aged 55, last summer.

It has since come to light that Burman set aside £150,000 to be given to Orient upon his death – a considerable sum which has been greatly received by the club, so much so in fact that chairman Barry Hearn has announced that their next League One game (against Peterborough this coming Saturday) will be dedicated to ‘Chingford John’ as a mark of gratitude for his “gesture of unprecedented kindness”.

This is a wonderful gesture from John who was by all accounts a remarkable man,” Hearn told the Orient website. “He was a true Orient supporter and we will be celebrating his life on Saturday, whilst the significant money he has left will ensure that his legacy lives on and the club he so passionately supported can live on and continue to grow.”
