Remember Louis Tomlinson? Our little friend who, as well as doing little song-and-dance routines in One Direction, made his way onto the books of Doncaster Rovers last year (even playing in a reserve game, if memory serves) as a bit of a publicity stunt?

Well, the newspapers were rife with rumours this morning that Tomlinson, the young pop star once gloriously tackled to smithereens by Gabriel Agbonlahor, is currently assessing the possibility of bidding to buy Donny – the club he has always supported.

It was generally dismissed as poppyfeathers and horsecock at the time, but now Rovers have officially confirmed that they are in talks about a “proposed takeover”.

Rovers’ statement on the matter reads:

“Following reports in the media, the owners of Doncaster Rovers can confirm that they have been approached and dialogue has taken place with external parties about a proposed takeover.

“At this stage the club is not in a position to comment further about the level and detail of those discussions, but will do so as soon as it is legally possible.

“The owners are looking to ensure a swift resolution to the discussions to ensure that this does not impact adversely on the summer transfer activity.

“Any decision made by the current owners will focus on for what is best for Doncaster Rovers in both the short and long term.”

Seeing as Donny are far-and-away the chintziest club in English football (literally EVERYTHING is sponsored), we’re going to go ahead and welcome Tomlinson to the Keepmoat boardroom.

All hail your new boyband overlord!

Anyway, just for old times’ sake here’s that Agbonlahor tackle one more time…

Beautiful.

The whole ‘life-long Doncaster fan’ line the media is being fed is utter garbage. Images galore of him online in a Man United kit!

Great way to brush the drugs issues swirling round this group under the carpet? Hey people, he’s buying Donny Rovers, look, wow!
