Bolton Wanderers fans have launched a petition in the hope of getting Southend United’s former head groundsman his job back.

After 27 years at the club, Ken Hare was harshly dismissed by Southend at the weekend after their League One tie against Bolton was postponed due to the pitch being frozen.

The Shrimpers announced the news with a rather glib statement, claiming that “people generally lose their position as a result of not doing their job.”

However, with temperatures dipping below freezing the night before and Roots Hall not having an undersoil heating system, the decision to sack Hare seemed a little rash at best – and nigh-on tribunal-worthy at worst.

Skip forward a few days and a 27-year-old Bolton fan by the name of Danny Welton is doing his darnedest to get Hare reinstated.

Welton. who started the petition over at Change.org, told the Bolton News:

We Bolton fans are disgusted with this and want to work together to get him his job back.

It is always disappointing when a match is postponed, but he does not deserve to lose his job – which we are all sure he was very good at – just for this.

Stand up for Ken and let’s show what a fantastic fan base we can be.

I speak on behalf of every Bolton fan when I say we have a fun, friendly, compassionate and caring fan base.

By the looks of it my fellow wanderers fans have reacted positively.

He’s not wrong, with the petition garnering over 1,800 signatures inside the first 24 hours.

Should you wish to stand up for Ken, then head over to the petition page and lend your support.

Personally, we’d like to see him sue Southend’s arses off.
