Continuing their fine start to the campaign, Notts County moved top of League Two on goal difference yesterday courtesy of a fine 4-1 win over Lincoln City at Meadow Lane.
Matt Tootle lashed home County’s second goal of the afternoon, giving the jocular full-back the perfect excuse to bust out his now-infamous ‘Slug’ goal celebration –
You know the drill: hands behind back, smear face into turf, pretend not to notice looks of incredulity from everybody else in the stadium…

Since first airing it in the 4-2 win over Wycombe in August, Tootle has actually revealed the origin of his Slug celebration to the Nottingham Post.
Apparently it stems from a team night out at the very beginning of the season during which the 26-year-old made a hash of a karaoke performance and decided to improvise with a little contemporary dance instead.
We did a bit of karaoke, but I forgot the words to ‘Stand By Me’ and having seen somebody do the slug at a festival on Instagram, I just decided to do the slug instead and it went down well.
So [against Wycombe], I didn’t plan it, I just thought the lads would find it funny and it went quite viral in the end.
See? There’s a perfectly good explanation for it.
