Just when you thought he was out, somebody goes and dredges him back up. Football’s arch Oxbridge professor cosplayer himself, Joseph Barton, is making a grand return to the game.
Fleetwood Town have confirmed that Barton will take over as their new head coach after the former Burnley midfielder’s ongoing suspension from all footballing activity ends on June 2nd.
Barton has agreed a three-year deal with the Cod Army, who are currently on course to finish amidst the mid-table mix in League One.

Speaking to the official Fleetwood club website, Barton chirruped:
I’m very excited by the challenge and the project at Fleetwood Town.
It’s a club I’ve known for a long time, and a chairman I already have a very good relationship with.
My first job in management was always going to be a big decision for me and I’m delighted with the opportunity ahead, I’m joining a club with big ambitions.
I’m looking forward to getting started on June 2nd.
We doubt we have to remind you, but the 35-year-old is currently serving an 13-month ban (reduced from 18 months) after being found guilty of no less than 1,260 FA betting regulation breaches.
Who needs credentials when you’ve got friends in the right places, eh?
