A narrow win for Uncle Woy Hodgson’s side, but a vital one as it keeps alive their hopes of progressing to the Europa League knockout stage. Danny Murphy, usually so good from the spot, tonked a penalty over the bar in the first half, before Zoltan Gera headed home on 14 minutes, from a Bjorn Riise cross. The Premier League side had several decent chances to double their lead but could not take them and so endured an anxious last 15 minutes as CSKA cranked up the pressure – but Fulham’s defence held firm, just.

With Roma winning at home to Basle in the other group match, Fulham now lie two points of the leaders (Roma) and one point behind the Swiss side, who they play away on the final matchday – it’s a winnable tie for the Cottagers, and a win would be enough to qualify.
