Well played for breaking his duck and all, but there’s no way in friggin’ hell that Downing meant that to reach Gerrard. It was being turned inside for Glen Johnson all day long.

Feel free to argue, BUT YOU’RE WRONG. Take it from a man who’s misplaced a fair-few through-balls in his time!

Everyone’s well aware that Downing hasn’t done well at Liverpool, not helped by a ridiculous price tag and the shambolic goings on at that club over the last two years.

But the cheap shots are just embarrassing now. You could see Gerrard making the run, and Downing more than likely did mean it. If it was any other player, you wouldn’t have posted this. A quick bit of research into his time at Boro and Villa would show you how highly thought of he was there.

You just embarrass yourself posting ill-informed, populist nonsense like this.

  2. Shalom says:

I really don’t understand why Mediocre English footballers have such inflated price tags. It ruins the players because they can’t ever match their price. Look at Carroll, Henderson (LOL), Downing and now Sturridge…. Actually ridiculous

  3. C says:

Inflated prices is an understatement. Sterling would probably go for 80 million if he got sold today.

  4. Saladinho says:

There’s no way he meant it, look at his reaction when it actually reaches Gerrard. It’s not a cheap shot on Downing but it’s plain to see that was meant for Johnson

  5. KKK says:

Maybe Downings pass was meant for Johnson, but there is no doubt that Gerrard’s rum was meant for Downing’s pass.

  6. StewurhtsDad says:

I remember when all yous put a through-ball through a Premier League defense and onto ol’ Stevie G’s clodhopper. Oh, wait. The boy had a fantastic day. End story.

  7. Vasko says:

I think someone just needed an excuse to use his semi-thought out rant.

  8. Ryan says:

I think he did mean it.. if you watch the play unfolding gerrard makes a driving run forward and downing is looking straight at him

  9. Gilbert says:

a gif of this? even a red like me doesn’t give two hoots whether he meant it. get a gif of Skrtels goal. we can see if he meant it.

  10. S Downing says:

I definitely meant it, why do you hate on me so much, if lionel messi did this you wouldn’t question it but because I am having a hard time I guess I am the easy target. However if you want i’ll happily pay for laser eye surgery so you can see better. Anyways i’m off to practice my shooting. tada

  11. bob says:

ok, if we are going to argue if this was does intentionally, then there is enough other points to have a separate website for it. I have noticed that so much of football is down to luck, it is unbelievable. i think the difference between the good and bad players is how they react to good and especially bad luck. there is way more lucky incidents in football than just this one pies, its only because its Stewart downing

  12. Grant says:

As a Yank who grew up with the trades model for sports transactions rather than the transfer fee model, I think it’s odd that you guys don’t seem to understand that the transfer fee is nothing other than the price of buying the player out of his contract at his current club, rather than the player’s “value.”

That’s why I always cringe when I hear people talk about how a squad is “worth 200 million” or whatever.

The reason is that there are always guys who leave on a free or for very cheap because they are at the end of their deals and the buying club would rather just wait to get them free or the selling club is just trying to get SOMETHING for their soon to be departing player.

Surely a better evaluation of a squad’s value is its payroll, since everyone no matter how you got them on your roster has to be paid, and that pay is based on their value to your team.

  13. Jett says:

Is this seriously a post about whether or not a player meant to make a pass? And we have to watch ads for the sh*t?

At least show the video of the pass, you know one that’s long enough where Downing actually sees the the run of Gerrard beforehand?
