Meet Cork City striker Roy O’Donovan who is likely to link-up with his namesake Keane in the near future. Sunderland and Fulham are both interested in the 21-year-old striker who they believe could be the next Kevin Doyle. The Reading striker forged the route from Cork City to scoring regularly in the Premier League. O’Donovan scored 21 goals in the Eircom League last season, and both Keane and Lawrie Sanchez seem happy that he can make the step up to the Premiership. Both clubs have reportedly bid just under £1 million for O’Donovan’s services.

As a Irishman, I’m delighted that people are finally talking real money for Irish players. Cork City got screwed by Reading for Kevin Doyle.

I am going to be really disappointed if Fulham miss out on this guy. It all seemed like a done deal last week with O’Donovan expected at Motspur Park for a medical and now Roy Keane comes blundering in with a late bid. It’s like being gazumped! We’d even agreed to loan him back to Cork for the remainder of their season so appear to have been pretty decent, but I guess it will come down to where the player wants to go.

Sunderland apparently will loan him back to Cork city too. I reckon He’ll join keano, those corkonians stick together! He’s definitely one to watch this year whoever he signs for.
