Konami Reveals PES 2011 Details (With Lionel Messi Video Teaser) – Master League Online At Last

By Ollie Irish

Fresh details on the next version of Pro Evolution Soccer, PES 11 (due for a September/October 2011 launch):

“Central to its total freedom of play, PES 2011 introduces a power bar for each player that allows the user to determine the exact strength and placement of every pass and shot. Balls can now be spread absolutely anywhere with utter precision, with long balls into space, short passes to feet and intricate one-twos allowing the player to dictate play and control the tempo of a match.

“This freedom of play is also extended via new AI routines designed to place every move and decision in the player’s hands. No longer will assisted AI intervene during matches; users will now need to sense and react to threats; and passes will not automatically reach the nearest player. Instead, all-new routines facilitate complete control both of the player and their chosen actions in every respect to give the player sublime control over every movement.

“The new level of control means that PES 2011 enjoys a more considered pace of play, which varies dependent on situations. The game will burst into life as counter-attacks come into play, but players can dictate the pace via slow build up or exploiting available space to surge forward. It is harder to make long runs from midfield, and successful play will depend on making quick passes to make room.”

Just words, for now. The best news, potentially, is saved for the end of Konami’s press release:

“Master League will offer an all-new challenge, as users are invited to try their hand against other managers online. PES 2011 will mark the online debut for its much-loved Master League element, with players bidding against each other for the world’s best players, and attempting to build a squad that can compete with the best against online peers all over the globe.”

So Master League, the best-loved game mode in PES, goes online – about forking time. After several sloppy versions of an all-time classic game franchise, I’m prepared to give Konami one more chance to get it right and kick imposter FIFA’s arse. Are you?

FIFA has that since ages. You just gotta change the pass and shot assistance to manual.
    Thats LAME!

7th generation console game race has been won by FIFA and I don’t believe that PES will make any sort of comeback until the next gen consoles come up

fifa sucks hard, has nothing to do with real football.

pes 2011 kicks fifa 11’s ass for sure

FIFA has been the best game for a while but the ’10 version is nothing but a glorified pinball game, the AI is atrocious and the stat-boosting of the computer controlled teams has been nicely complemented with your players being unable to control a pass made at a 10 yard distance or slowly build up play without trying a ridiculous through ball in your own half of the pitch when you’re simply trying to spread out the game. Let’s not even get into the players’ AI while defending counter attacks or set pieces, as it would take days to highlight all the problems. The thing is, the movement of the players with or without the ball can be quite beautiful at times, something I’ve never really experienced on PES. Here’s to this one solving that and finally getting us rid of the FIFA cancer.

They need to get proper kits for ALL teams. This is a huge disadvantage compared to Fifa. If they were to get a license for kits then it would be so much better. A majority of people like to play a realistic game so the uniform is ESSENTIAL. I mean it just looks bad with a plain shirt.

I was an ardent PES player up until PES 2008 destroyed the franchise. They just haven’t made the transition to the next gen consoles as well as FIFA has. PES 6 is the pinnacle of all football games, the fluidity of the movements, the simplicity of actually being able to beat a player one on one, the range of passing and shooting. It’s untouchable. Konami should have kept the match engine identical, and just beefed up the graphics, because quite simply that is the only way to improve on that game. Instead they made it and arcadey and pin ballish, with rigid movements, clunky sounds, and referees that would send you off for nothing. Essentially, they made it unplayable. That allowed EA to step in, and while by no means as good as PES in it’s prime, it’s far closer to it than PES is now. Anybody who says otherwise is just holding on to the past and refuses to acknowledge it. Konami lost a lot of fans, but if they can bring us back to the glory days this time round, I’m sure they will all go back, myself included.
