There seems to have been just as much debate this summer about the World Cup pundits as there has been about he actual football, with a number of ‘co-commentators’ and in-studio guests driving us all up the walls.

Anyway, the Media Blog people have conducted a rather interesting survey of their own on the popularity (or not) of the BBC and ITV pundits, with ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy’s ego-free, charming style bagging him the gong for most popular pundit. Crisp-pusher Gary Lineker is second while smooth operator Thierry Henry comes third.

As for the least popular pundit, Andy “not for me, Clive” Townsend got the wooden spoon after another raft of annoying performances. Moon-faced “everyman” Adrian Chiles comes second here with grumpy old man Mark Lawrenson in third.

My personal favourite was Tim Vickery for, among other reasons, teaching us all how to say “Fred” so at least we can pronounce his name right when we say how rubbish he was this world cup

Plus no mention of Martin O’Neill? Boring manager but great pundit.
