Ever drunk so much water you developed hypothermia and slipped into a sort of semi-coma?

Yeah, us too.

Indeed, that’s exactly what is alleged to have happened to Jordan striker Ahmad Hayel after last night’s Asian Cup game against Iraq.

Jordan, who are currently managed by none other than Ray Wilkins, lost the game 0-1, but all the real fun began after the final whistle.

According to Jordanian FA general secretary Fadi Zureikat, doping testers demanded that Hayel drink “several litres of water” to help him produce a urine sample and that this procedure left the forward in a “semi-coma and with hypothermia”.

Zureikat also claims Hayel wasn’t given any salts or minerals with the water and that he was “unconscious” when he arrived back at the team hotel in a private car after his test.

As the old saying goes: “Water: giver of life, taker of mortal souls.”

Anyway, Asian Cup officials said confirmed they are waiting for a report into the incident.

We’ll keep you posted…maybe.
