Despite being ranked as the 209th best international side in a field of 209 sides, Bhutan recorded a remarkable shock win to get their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign off to a flyer!

Having only joined FIFA in 2000, Bhutan are currently officially ranked the worst team in the world yet still managed to battle their way to a 1-0 victory over Sri Lanka – who are perched a lofty 36 rungs higher on FIFA’s ranking ladder – in their first ever World Cup qualifying fixture in Colombo on Thursday.

Tshering Dorji did the the business for Bhutan, scoring late to seal his country’s first victory over another nation since their historic 3-1 triumph over Afghanistan in 2008.

We look forward to having them knock England out in the group stages.

    Lovely stuff.
I watched Next Goal Wins the other night about American Samoa who were at a similar standard and it’s brilliant if you haven’t already seen it.
