Playing in their snazzy new “dandruff shoulders” kit, the US national side beat Mexico 2-0 in a friendly in front of 65,000 fans at the Alamodome in San Antonio last night.

It proved to be a special night for young striker Jordan Morris who, despite some wayward shooting in the first half, opened the scoring just three minutes into the second after reportedly being told to “calm down” by Jurgen Klinsmann at the interval.

Morris, currently a student at Stanford University, duly scored his first full goal (on his first full start) for the US national side courtesy of a nifty finish between the onrushing Mexican goalkeeper’s legs almost immediately after the restart…

With the victory secured and a smattering of minutes left to play, it seemed like Morris was going to also receive the ‘Man of the Match’ award just to put the icing put on his debut cake.

However, it transpired that, as the MotM award was sponsored by Budweiser, the 20-year-old forward wasn’t actually of a legal age to receive the award – as confirmed by Sports Illustrated journalist Brian Straus…

Unfortunately, he wasn’t joking…

What a kicker! Bet Morris went out and celebrated with a tall glass of fruit juice all the same.
