Argentina’s recent international woes continued this week, with the Albiceleste losing to Paraguay in the World Cup qualfiers, a result which leaves the South American giants outside the automatic qualification places for 2018.

Not surprisingly, the football-mad locals are less than impressed, with a number of commentators unable to hide their frustration, particularly after Sergio Aguero’s feeble penalty miss against the Paraguayans.

Argentina were without the injured Lionel Messi, but were still expected to overcome Paraguay with a side which included the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria and Javier Mascherano.

However, they found themselves a goal down after 17 minutes before struggling to click in attack, with Aguero struggling in attack.

Argentina did dominate for large periods of the game and had a great chance to level the scores in the second-half, only for Aguero to fluff his lines from the penalty spot, which pushed one commentator in particular over the edge.

“Enough, enough, enough. Leave Aguero, leave, just leave, for the love of god leave”, the commentator apparently cried….

Here’s the local news report on the media furore over the defeat…

Poor old Sergio!

The defeat sees the 1978 and 1986 World Cup winners in fifth place in the CONMEBOL qualifying table, one place outside an automatic qualifying berth, meaning a play-off for a spot in Russia against an Oceania side if they don;t get their act together soon!
