An amateur side from the lower rungs of the Bulgarian football hierarchy have vowed to honour their upcoming cup tie against top-flight Levski Sofia by playing the match while blind drunk.

Athletik Kuklen have been drawn against Levski in the round of 32 of the Bulgarian Cup, thus pitting a provincial team against the 26-time national champions (and last season’s beaten finalists).

In a defiant statement shared on their Facebook page, Kuklen welcomed the draw by yelling (via @shumansko) “Long live village football! We will all drink our asses off ahead of the Levski game!’

Should be interesting. Definitely one to keep an eye out for.

For the record, the round of 32 clash is scheduled to take place at Kuklen’s ground on Tuesday 25th September.

The club is more than cool – they are known as “the Basques” (no idea how the might be affiliated with that region in Spain) and their stadium carries the nickname “San Mames”. Hence, the “vamos bailar” (sic) call in the screenshot above.
