Republic of Ireland vs Mexico at USA 94: Ireland striker John Aldridge has to be restrained by coach Maurice Setters as he indicates to the fourth official how long he has been waiting to take his place on the pitch – three whole minutes! – as a sub for Tommy Coyne (who had already left the pitch and was sat in the dugout). Ireland were losing 2-0 at the time, on a scorching hot day in Orlando, Florida.

When Aldo did finally get on the pitch, after more than five minutes of waiting, he scored. Despite losing 2-1, his goal saw Ireland sneak through to the knockout stages, at Norway’s expense.

Shoddy video of the incident:

Terrific striker, Aldo. Underrated by many.
