Hot on the heels of Kendal Town’s naff ‘fake beards‘ sponsorship comes this from Suffolk-based Sunday league side Playford FC, who have found themselves in the unenviable position of being without a sponsor going into the 2012/13 season.
In a bid to force the issue, Playford decided to besmirch the eyes of the world by filming themselves playing in their underwear – a feat they intend to repeat until a new sponsor comes forward and puts us all out of our misery.
Club captain Richard Jones (the man who came up with the idea) told the BBC: “We wanted to do something that would make us stand out to potential sponsors. We’re hoping the video might help. It was good fun to make, although slightly odd.”
No arguments there…
It would appear that Playford’s war of semi-nude attrition is doing the trick, with over 7,000 views of their Youtube viral clocked and a light smattering of coverage in several of their local newspapers – though, as yet, we are sad to announce that they remain sponsorless and in their shreddies.
