Portugal & Holland Get Gorgeous New Away Kits: One Inspired By Volcanic Rock, One Inspired By Geometry (Photos)

By Chris Wright

Portugal and Holland have both got new away kits, both are supremely smart…

According to the Nike blurb, Portugal’s svelte black strip is apparently inspired by the volcanic basalt rock that is used extensively in construction throughout the country while Holland’s immaculate white, red and blue kit is inspired by Dutch football’s “relationship with geometry and space.”

Who could argue with that?

Pies have a penchant for unfussy black-on-black kits so Portugal’s new’n is an instant winner with us, and we seriously can’t remember the last Holland strip we didn’t like. This 2013 effort is no exception. Love it.

Any thoughts folks?

that holland kit is pretty fly

  2. usrick says:

Kits are excellent – explanations for them (especially the Dutch)are pretty lame.

  3. Wesley says:

The inprint says ‘nieuwe meesters’ which means new masters. I believe they cou;d refer to the Dutch history of awesome painters maybe? Would be funny if Vermeer would be in goal, since one of those painters was called Vermeer.

So great to see the Panama National Team get some recognition! Oh, wait…

  5. Mr Sensible says:

Nice but pretty lazy from Nike, both kits are just different colour variations on the previous Portugal and Dutch kits.

Not sure how in the past few years we have now gone to accepting new kits for clubs and countries released ever year. Must suck for parents, but when did anyone give a fuck what fans think and taking their money.

  6. T says:

The Portugal Kit is alright. As a fan of the Dutch, I do not like the away kit. It reminds me of the czech kits from the 90s/

Pretty awesome on both counts. I’m guessing they’ll be 59.99 each though unfortunatly.

I think they have a really good chance of winning this time.
