We appreciate these PR-y things are coming a bit thick and fast of late (*there’s still time to enter our boot competition, hint hint*) but it’s a bit slow out there at the moment so you’ll just have to make do until actual football farts back into life again.

That said, this latest little escapade put on by Adidas is fairly groovy.

Basically, to celebrate the launch of their new Nitrocharge boot line, Adidas set off trotting around the globe to find the best amateur “midfield engine room” players out there by holding a series of incognito scouting sessions in Venezuela, Ecuador, South Korea, France, UK and Italy with assistance from a team of football which included two bona fide midfield dynamos in Patrick Vieria and Danielle De Rossi, as well as Jamie Carragher.

The best players cherry-picked from the scouting sessions were then flown to Brazil to take part in the pick-up game of a lifetime on the specially-rigged up Adidas “Power Pitch”, which uses in-game energy to dictate the pitchside floodlighting – meaning that every sprint, pass, tackle and jinking off-the-ball run generated power to keep the whole thing lit up like a Christmas tree…
