Set to debut in the Champions League this week, Adidas have today unleashed their new limited edition ‘Enlightened’ boot back, which sees their four flagship models: the adiPure, the f50, the Nitrocharge and the Predator; given a new blackout/luminescent treatment.

The Enlightened pack will see all the boots rendered in black with the famous three stripes and laces both rendered in reflective material that is designed to bounce light from stadium floodlights in order for their wearers to “be seen”. You can find out more by having a butcher’s at Adidas’ new interactive boot factsheets should you wish.

Whatever happened to black Copa Mundial boots?

it makes you wonder, why aren’t these boots designed to reflect some greater message than, “look at this player!”

while they seem to come up with new ideas on the ready, major shoe manufacturers rarely seem to care about any greater cause than the promotion of talented footballers who in turn promote the sales of the manufacturer’s goods.

what’s the point of showing off great players, as if we can’t see them performing wonderfully on the pitch? it’s all a money grab. instead, they should promote positive values in our society through their massive voice and sway in media.

oh wait, aren’t these boots built by starving children in poor countries? never mind, look the other way. what a pretty goal! buy our shirts and shoes! cha-ching! fuck the starving kids.
