Fresh from brushing Ukraine aside to reach the party, France have rolled out the new kit they’ll be provoking their destiny with in Brazil next summer and a handsome – if a little familiar – beast it is too.

With the beautiful Fronk roped in to model Nike’s new Bleu wares (alongside Blaise Matuidi, Yohan Cabaye and Raphael Varane), the kit is loosely styled upon France’s 1958 home strip and cockerel crest (don’t tell Tottenham!), while the fabric is apparently inspired by the tale of the town of Nimes in the south of the country.

Allow us to explain: According to the accompanying blurb, Nîmes was the birthplace of modern denim, and the fabric takes its name from the town (i.e, ‘de Nîmes’) and the surrounding landscape is said to have inspired the dainty silk shawls favoured by the ladies of Europe throughout the 18th century.

In Nike speak, “this paradox between raw denim and elegant silk mirrored our designers’ desire to create a beautiful design aesthetic for the French home shirt.”

Oui, oui. Who are we to argue with that?

Nice, but we can’t help but feel Olympique Marseille have already cornered the market on denim strips.

France ALWAYS has the most beautiful kits.

I always believed less is more in jersey designs, and this is further proof.

I heard the promo photo was taken in the locker room after the3-0 win over Ukraine. If that’s true, then bravo to Nike for a badass way to make an ad.

  4. Ross says:

Nice, but not as nice as the white/blue stripy away shirt from a few years ago, lovely.

  5. Terry Shedingham says:

So how’s this going to fit in with the “teams’ strips must be all one colour” rule that FIFA’s pushing for the 2014 finals?

  6. Magnifique Coq says:

Are the shirts supposed to look wet, and are they that tight? Can’t see this being a good look for the pie-loving, beer guzzling football supporters…

Nice strip – nike rarely miss the mark with their simplicity and classic cuts. My only critique – the shades of blue and red perhaps are a bit too corporate rather than fun vibrant football kit.

Btw the white top, sky blue shorts and red socks can’t be beat. I actually like it better than the home kit.

At least they are wearing Blue-white-red during the World Cup. That all-blue outfit they had the Euros was a despicable move away from tradition. I still think Adidas should be making the France shirts.
