The Brazilian version of Trainspotting is a little more clean-cut

To be honest, it wouldn’t take an astounding leap of imagination to guess what Brazil’s new kit for 2014 looks like, with Nike sticking vehemently to their well-worn template: yellow, green, blue, white: but if it ain’t bloody broke then don’t try to bloody well fix it, eh?

Pretty much the only design element to differ between this and La Selecao’s 2013 kit is the smart new ‘Y’ neck, though on the tech side, Nike have used 3D body-scanning to map the torsos of every member of the Brazilian squad and produce custom-fit shirts for each player.

As with most things in football these days, it’s all ridiculously over-engineered, but fairly cool none-the-less.

Nice air of simplicity. Definitely feeling that.

Very very clean. They could have gone rogue in order to make something “special” for the hosts but they kept it classy, well done. That’s a football shirt I could justify purchasing.

Personally I think it’s a very lazy and poor effort. I would have liked to have thought that given Brazil is hosting the World Cup and has such a storied tradition with magnificent squads and players over the decades, a kit would have been tailored to pay homage to these.

To begin, the short colour is wrong and has been for decades now; the classic Brazil short was a lighter shade of blue. Further, the collar is laughable and is akin to something of a smock or the dreaded Man Utd away ‘nurses outfit’. The socks are also bland and lazy – they should have had the green and yellow piping of yesteryear. I’m truly of the mind that Nike are the Posche of football- the laziest designers there are who fart out ideas while doing donut runs. I shudder to think what they’re going to do with the Greece kit – having a template is insulting to a country that is a European Champion nation.

At least they’re using vibrant shades of colours for Brazil…unlike some of the other strips which need a swoosh of colour enhancer or some boldness pleeeease.

Loath the Man Utd nurse collar thing – something a lil too understated for my liking.

I do get the bit about each team needing an identity, think that is important.

But this one for me is a win. Best strip this year.

Still rate their WC98 as the best one – has the boldness of colours & design, its vibrant…retro-y. Ticked all the boxes.

But this is a close 2nd to it.
