adidas PR Shoot 06/02/2014

What you see Luis Suarez pawing at up above is Adidas’ brand new boot model, the Samba Primeknit, which just so happens the world’s first ever knitted football boot.

Yep. Knitted.

Inspired by the success of the similarly woollen Primeknit running trainer, Adidas have used the same process to create a limited edition boot – the first ever to be knitted from heel to toe.

The Primeknit’s upper is also constructed from a single piece of fabric, therefore cutting down on wastage and making it, as Adidas themselves claim, the “most sustainable” football boot they’ve ever produced.

The Primeknit boots are pencilled in to go on sale to the public on March 17th and will retail at around the £250 mark, though what price can you put on “combining the comfort and responsiveness of playing barefoot with the protection of a traditional design,” we ask you?

Here’s Luis mucking around with his new woolly boots…

Yeah, that’s not really the way design works, adidas. First you consider what the shoe will be used for and under what conditions, and if anyone in the room still thought that a wollen football boot was agood idea, then they should work for Warrior Sports.
Like putting F1 tyres on a tractor.

Unfortunately for Adidas, Nike has been successfully making knitted running, training, and racing shoes for some time now through their Flyknit line. Sure, Adidas may be the first to unnecessarily use the idea in a football boot, but it’s simply a novelty. I cannot see this working out.

Maybe so. But its quickly cancelled out by the way they come out with a new colorway every month.

    hideous.

and the boot is not easy on the eye either (ZING)

  6. Chris says:

Always been highly critical of adidas, not so this time. They’ve done a few things right here. Getting Suarez to head up the campagin is a masterclass and the boot itself is not overdone and it’d look great on the players.

But the key to the marketing is Suarez, if hes sayin its cool. Its cool.

nice but can it be wear when raining

  8. Mick says:

There’s no way I’ll be rushing out to buy a pair at 250 quid a pop, but I have to admit, I don’t think they look THAT bad (especially compared to recent abominations, like C Ronaldo’s “sharkskin” boot), and they do look super comfortable. My only reservation would be how they hold up after a bit of wear-and-tear–I’m sure scuffing the boot a few times while shooting, copping the odd boot in a strong tackle, and a bit of mud and rain would bring it undone a lot quicker than the leather. If you’re a professional player though and Adidas are just giving them to you for nothing then why not?
