Retro Football: Gary Lineker’s First Ever Advert For Walkers Crisps, 1980s (Video)

Lineker signs Walkers contract

Partly inspired by Leicester City’s return to the top flight, we thought we’d delve into the portfolio of one of the city’s most famous sons, Mr Gary Winston Lineker OBE, and hunt out the very first time he shilled for Walkers Crisps from way back in the primordial mists of the mid-ish 1980s.

Lineker’s ambassadorial deal with the Leicester-based fried potato sliver cartel is, of course, a deep-seated sponsorship that still exists to this very day – though, while the former Foxes striker’s adverts are becoming ever more flashy (see accompanying image for details), the first of the canon was an altogether more sober affair…

    A superb sportsman who now helps to sell crisps to the nation’s youth. Blame this man for the kids being fat and the England team being terrible and all the other stuff. Gary Lineker likes getting paid for making people fat.

    I would too I suppose, if they paid me loads.
