Spot the difference
Spain and Adidas have been rushed in producing an “emergency” third kit for the World Cup after FIFA raised concerns that fans wouldn’t be able to distinguish between theirs and Holland’s strips during the opening Group B fixture between the two sides.
It would appear that FIFA have been grumbling about Spain’s 2014 World Cup kits since they were registered for use at the tournament back in January, with Blatter and his cronies unhappy that Spain’s predominately red home strip (above) and their predominantly black away strip didn’t satisfy FIFA’s request that all countries prepare one all-dark kit and one all-light kit for use in Brazil.
FIFA have since asked Spain to rush out a third, all-white kit to wear against Holland on 13th June as there’s simply no way that anybody in the stadium or watching on television at home could possibly tell the difference between their entirely red kit and Holland’s dark blue number (also above).
Furthermore, Spain are the designated home team for the fixture, meaning it would be perfectly legitimate for them to wear red and Holland to wear blue – which, as far as we remember from infant school, are completely different colours.
Still, this is FIFA we’re talking about; why look for any logic?
Anyway, photos of Adidas’ white rush-job have since been leaked, and it looks a little something like this…
